You don't compete with other players. In Roulette you play only against the dealer. 1 to 8 players can play the game at the same time. Each player buys in and each player gets colored chips. All players have chips of different color. If you win a spin, you cash your color chip in for a cash chip of a certain value. The "En Prison" rule can be applied when you make an even money bet and the spinning ball stops on the zero. In this case you can either use your bet for another spin or you can take it. You put your bet "in prison" if you decide to leave it for the next spin. The 'La Partage' rule can be applied when you make an outside even money bet and the spinning ball stops on the zero. In this case you lose half of your bet and you are not allowed to use it in the next spin.

Players are allowed to continue placng their bets during the spin until the dealer says "No more bets". All roulette players place their bets.   The United States adopted their own version, but the French version is still played time to time in Las Vegas. In American roulette the addition of the 00 section greatly increases the odds in favor of the house. Never ever make the 5-number bet. Roulette is a glamorous and exciting game that's easy to play. In Europe, the payoff odds are the same but the 00 is not on the wheel so the house advantage is only 2.7% (that is there are only 37 slots on the wheel) Odds of 17:1 are attached to bets on two numbers, which can be made by laying a chip across the line between any two numbers on the board. Roulette uses a special wheel, a betting layout, and chips.  You usually find most tables in Las Vegas with a minimum bet of $1 - $3. You can do this same calculation for the other bets, and it comes out the same. Before you get confused, standard American roulette rules have the table use different chips than other table games at the same casino. Roulette is played on a table featuring a betting area and the roulette wheel. These are referred to as INSIDE or OUTSIDE bets. Although the Single Zero wheel gives better odds, even with a 00 wheel and $5 bets you'll lose less money than on a 5-coin nickel slot machine. The ball will lose speed and eventually stop in one of the numbered pockets in the Roulette wheel. If you are playing at a table with a 5 dollar minimum, you are required to place 5 dollars on each of your outside bets, and-or a total of at least 5 dollars on your inside bets (inside & outside bets are explained in a second) The difference between the true odds and what they actually pay you is 2/38, or 5.26%. After purchasing the chips from the dealer, the player places them on the desired positions on the table in an attempt to predict where the ball will land after the wheel is spun and the ball comes to a stop. Some wheels have only the 0 (no 00), and have about a 2.6% house edge. If you’re feeling lucky, you can pack in plenty of casino play at a roulette wheel in a short time. European Roulette Wheel: The European Roulette Wheel contains 37 numbers including 0 and 1 to 36 Having one zero (0) gives the house a 2.70% advantage. To make your money last longer try to find a single 0 wheel, and make only one bet per round regardless of what kind of wheel you find. The European wheel has a lower house edge (2.63%) because it has only 37 slots instead of 38 (no 00) The payoff odds for all bets are less than the odds of winning. Before you can place your bet on a roulette table you first have to get special roulette chips from the dealer at the table.  Roulette is a fast moving, simple and exciting game offering many different types of bets and payoffs. The American version of roulette has a single zero and a double zero versus the French version with just a single zero. The zero and double zero numbers are in green and on opposite sides of the wheel, the colors and odd/even numbers alternate, and the numbers themselves are randomly distributed. I found out about it when an Atlantic City dealer took only one of my two chips on a losing bet and I had to ask why. Don't be fooled into thinking that any number or color is "due". Wait til the dealer says "place your bets" before putting any roulette chips down for the next round. Here's another way to look at it: Let's say you bet $10 on every number one bet on each of the 38 spots. You don't get paid for the win, though, but it's better than losing it outright. Roulette translated literally means "small wheel" and is one of the oldest casino games played today. Roulette is not as popular in United States casinos as it is in Europe. The marked area of Roulette is called the game layout, and you may place bets on any particular number, any 4 adjacent numbers, a column or a dozen bet. When you finish beating the house at roulette, you will have to ask the dealer to "color out" for you, the dealer will then take your chips and give you casino checks which you may then use on other games or cash out at the cashier.
